TOP 20 Training Songs For The Gym Part 1

Many people overlook the importance of good training music and the effect that it can have on your performance. If you ever have tried maxing out on your deadlift listening to the type of shitty music they play at a regular public gym, you’ll know what difference good music can make on your lifts.

Don’t believe it? Next time you are going for a chin up contest with your buddy, do it to the tune of Britney Spears or when Usher is delicately humming in your ear how he wants to make love to you in a club…

Then blast out some Disturbed, In Flames or Iron Maiden and tell me music has no effect.

Most gyms have crappy playlists. Some even play radio stations like NRJ or Radio Nova, which is a sin! We’re living in a day and age where having to listen to any kind of talk or commercials while training is pathetic behavior on behalf of the gym. With a wide variety of different internet radio channels, creating a playlist designed specifically for training – including rock, metal, old school hip hop – is easy for even a total computer dunce.

Knowing that there rarely is a gym which plays the kind of music that fires you up, your best bet is to always have your own mp3 player with you. Load it up with some hardcore training songs and continue lifting heavy.

Here is my current TOP 20 playlist of kickass training songs that I wanted to share with you…

20. Killswitch Engage – My Curse

There probably is none better in the music business than KSE’s lead singer Howard Jones when it comes to combining hardcore screaming and a soft, melodic voice in the same song. This band is friggin’ incredible!

19. In Flames – Take This Life

If In Flames doesn’t get you fired up to start beasting, then who or what will? I bet hockey fights don’t do the trick for you either.

I heard the Feminist Association was looking to organise a golf tournament this fall. Why don’t you donate a pair of balls to them? Obviously you won’t be needing yours. Now go sing along to your Backstreet Boys CD’s.

18. Helia – Alejandro

This is how “Alejandro” shoulda sounded in the first place. Take that all you Lady Gaga fans.

17. Killswitch Engage – Starting Over

And another great one by KSE… Man, there are so many songs to choose from with these guys that they would deserve their own top 10 list…

16. Sonic Syndicate – Denied

I don’t know how they are able to make music like this – of all the places – in SWEDEN!? The band has a couple of other good songs as well, but they changed the lead singer some time ago and took a step in a softer direction – not good.

In the next part we’ll run through placings 11-15.
